Icons of Spokane

When I was younger my family moved around loads of times because my dad was in the military. When he retired, we settled down in Spokane with my mom’s side of the family. It was the first place that truly felt permanent and it has been since 2001. I have fallen in love with everything Spokane has to offer. For this project, I wanted to be able to showcase some of Spokane's greatest icons.
I walked around with both a film camera and a digital camera to some of the biggest landmarks in town. My focus was to reimagine the space in the final image. I wanted people to clearly recognize the location but also to show it in a new light. I took multiple photos of the same scene and then edited or developed them after. In the end, I stitched them back together to create a new image, sometimes overlapping or zooming in on certain parts for emphasis. I made postcards because I wanted to make something that people could use and keep. These pictures are a way for me to celebrate Spokane and to share some of its unique features with others.
